Bill and Dale
Teamed Spring 2008
Service dogs are an amazing enabler for anyone who has a physical disability or has any form of paralysis. Since my 1989 accident which caused a permanent neck area spinal cord injury, I’ve benefited with having a terrific service dog. My current service dog Dale has surpassed all expectations that I have had.
Dale enhances my life in immeasurable ways. My paralysis involves limited dexterity in my hands and fingers. Dale’s training and his retrieval skills I use constantly. If I drop my wallet, car keys, cell phone, or any object… Dale is always ready and willing to retrieve them and to place these items back into my hands. Dale is my constant buddy and companion. He assists me in performing many of the daily tasks that I find challenging.
Dale has a social benefit as well. Wheel-Chairs and physical disabilities are sometimes an intimidating factor to others during social encounters. Dale’s loveable and irresistible looks along with his good nature draw people to us. Dale has been responsible for initiating many wonderful and lasting encounters with people resulting in many lasting friendships.
I can’t say enough to praise service dogs in general, and my Dale in particular. Every day in life I benefit by having Dale as my sidekick. He is a reliable and helpful partner to me, and my two young children love him as much as I do.
