Ian and Amber

Teamed Spring, 2008

Hi everyone.. My name is Ian and I have been placed with Miss Amber. Miss Amber has almost become a detached part of my person. No matter were I go there’s Amber right by my side. A little about me: I was very involved in athletics, especially football and golf. After graduating from High School, the US Army became my next challenge. I recommend this mental, physical and emotional challenge for any young adult. Upon fulfilling my commitment, I attended San Diego State University Business School to study Finance, graduating in 1993. While at SDSU I began my career with United Parcel Service (UPS) which lasted 17 years. I was diagnosed with a progressive form of Multiple Sclerosis in January of 2001. After my diagnosis I continued to work for an additional five years until fatigue became too much of a hindrance to perform my job properly. Sometimes even the smallest tasks have become extremely difficult for me. My mother had been trying to get me to look into getting a service dog for a considerable amount of time. What a perfect suggestion! I just don’t know what took me so long to actually do it! Amber and I have already been able to develop a very personal relationship. I have accepted the diagnosis of MS. The loss of my athleticism is really the hardest part. The unconditional love and friendship that Miss Amber has and will provide in the future is hard to put into the proper words.
